ALTA VISTA AND MAPLEWOOD, BETHESDA, MD.

The Alta Vista and Maplewood neighborhoods were named by a developer in the early 1880's to draw people away from the heat and humidity of Washington D.C. and the Potomac River.  The first houses were built at the end of the street car line.

ALTA       = Height
                                   VISTA     = Distant View or Landscape

People purchased homes in these neighborhoods for their "summer retreat" away from the city.  This was the perfect location and far enough from the city to enjoy cool breezes and quiet days and to relax from the busy, hectic times in Washington, D.C. It is located between Wisconsin Ave. and Old Georgetown Rd. in Bethesda, Md. It is situated behind the Bethesda YMCA and adjacent to NIH, and Walter Reed.  This trendy and sophisticated neighborhood is mostly made up of homes in the $700,000 and up price range attracting a highly sophisticated and educated population.

Today, homes sell extremely quick and have retained their values over the years.  This is a very desirable area to live in due to it's close proximity to the many available resources and transportation.
